English I students worked on analyzing two poems (“Those Winter Sundays” and “My Papa’s Waltz”) in a fairly complicated writing assignment. To be sure, we didn’t actually write the paragraphs, but we planned them and did about 75% of the work.

If we were ever to have a test on poetry (we will), we might have some kind of short essay question like this (we will).

English 8 students went to the library to get new independent reading books and then worked on their article of the week — the first time they’ve done it. We made some serious inroads today, completing the last required annotation on the first page.

Afterward, we completed our first summary:
