English I students finished up their work on the poem “My Papa’s Waltz,” determining that we have to be somewhat careful about reading too much into something based on connotation alone without taking into consideration the original context of the piece’s authorship. In other words, we saw a real-life example of how connotation can change with time. We also finished our parts of speech review.

English 8 students worked on their argument pieces, completing first drafts in time for a Monday turn in.

Homework

  • English 8: 
    • complete No Red Ink as needed;
    • work on the argument project as necessary.
  • English I Honors: 
    • practice parts of speech test (on Tuesday 1 October) for the test with:
    • prepare for the parts of speech test (again, on Tuesday 1 October)with these practice exercises on the Courses site (for a grade) (though you should not do them all at one time — space them out to give yourself plenty of practice over the next few days):
