Everyone was working on arguments in one form or another today. English I students were creating claims about the connections between “Decoration Day” and Romeo and Juliet. Students came up with three claims:
- In both the song and the play there are feuds with unknown causes.
- Both Romeo and the speaker are initially reluctant to fight but change their mind when they experience traumatic violence.
- Someone in both the play and the song is willing to leave/betray their family.
English 8 students worked on determining the claim and evidence from an article about Martin Luther King, Jr.
We’ll be continuing this work through the next couple of weeks and then transition to evaluating the arguments.
Class Notes
Notes for the day's classes are available here.
Please note that this is a composite file including notes from all classes, though occasionally it might only be one or two classes. I don't differentiate in the file; that is up to you to do.
