English 8 students had their first Socratic Seminar to discuss the statements we wrote about yesterday during our anticipatory session for our new unit.
- Sometimes, it’s better to remain ignorant about certain things.
- It’s fair to treat people differently based on their intelligence.
- It is better to be smart and lonely than unintelligent and happy.
- Our relationships with other people are more important than our achievements.
- It is important to have empathy for others.
- It is better to accept your fate than to try to change it.
It was a short discussion this first time since we were working on a basic understanding of how to have a Socratic Seminar. Both sixth and seventh periods did an excellent job.
English I students finished up the planning for their analytic paragraphs on “The Cask of Amontillado.”
