English I Honors students began a review for the test on Wednesday by going over sentence types in small groups. Students are working to be able to differentiate between four sentence types:

  1. Simple
  2. Compound
  3. Complex
  4. Compound-complex

It will not be on the test, of course, but the work does help prepare students as it requires an application of their knowledge of independent and subordinate clauses.

English 8 students worked on their coming test as well, finishing up some work on some final figurative language work after finishing up our examination of the role of connotation in “Those Winter Sundays.”

Homework

  • English 8:
    • work on figurative language practice on Moodle as necessary;
    • work on figurative language practice and vocab work on IXL as necessary;
    • work on AOW vocab on Quizlet as necessary;
    • work on one-pager (Google Classroom) as necessary.
  • English I Honors:
    • work on IXL as needed;
    • work on one-pager (Google Classroom) as needed;
    • work on AOW vocab on Quizlet as necessary;
    • practice subordinate clause work on either IXL, Quizlet, or Moodle as needed;
    • diagram these sentences by tomorrow:
      • I hate the idea of running through the hall with a chicken.
      • To be or not to be is the question.
      • Mastering carefully diagrammed sentences seems to be terribly useful for most students in Mr. Scott’s English class.
