English I students began the Odyssey, even listening to a little of the original Greek:

We focused on the opening lines, the prayer to the muses:

Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story
of that man skilled in all ways of contending,
the wanderer, harried for years on end,
after he plundered the stronghold
on the proud height of Troy.

It was a perfect time to begin looking at appositives, so that’s what we focused on at the end of class.

English 8 students continued with the quick overview of text structures after going over the article of the week some:

Finally, during advisory, we met virtually with a couple of engineers from GE to talk about engineering problems to encourage kids to get involved in STEM careers.

Homework

  • English 8: work on final project for the Nightjohn unit as necessary.
  • English I Honors: read the “Calypso” fragment from the Odyssey. (It’s on Google Classroom.) Use the comment feature to annotate for understanding.
