English 8 students finished up the Halloween unit on “The Tell-Tale Heart” and started a new short unit on poetry, specifically focusing on figurative language. We went through a Pear Deck to assess students’ thoughts and preconceptions about poetry before we begin looking at the unit. Questions we considered included:

  • “Poetry is/has/(supply your own positive verb) ____.”
  • How is poetry similar to hip-hop/rap?
  • Poetry isn’t/doesn’t have/(supply your own negative verb) ____.
  • How is poetry different from hip-hop/rap?
  • “When I think about READING poetry, I…”

English I Honors students had something of a workday.

Homework

    • work on Quizlet vocab for the Q2 AOW;
