English 8 students looked at chapter 4 in Nightjohn to find the motifs we’ve been looking for (power, money, and freedom). We’ll be using these for the end-of-the-unit project.

English I Honors students went over their homework and had a quick planning session  with a partner for Schaffer paragraphs that compare and contrast “Those Winter Sundays” and “My Papa’s Waltz.” These paragraphs are the extra credit option for the first quarter:

  • Three paragraphs to replace a minor-grade NHI with the class average for the assignment;
  • Five paragraphs to replace a major-grade NHI with the class average for the assignment;

If you have no NHIs, this can apply to your lowest grade. And of course, all of this depends on the quality of the work: it’s not a question of turning in something Schaffer-esque and getting full credit.

Homework

  • English 8:
    • read chapter 5 of Nightjohn;
    • work on article of the week as necessary;
    • work on IXL as necessary.
  • English I Honors:
    • work on article of the week as necessary;
    • work on IXL as necessary.
Class Notes

Notes for the day's classes are available here.

Please note that this is a composite file including notes from all classes, though occasionally it might only be one or two classes. I don't differentiate in the file; that is up to you to do.
