English 8 students worked on their first Schaffer paragraphs, returning in time to that awful time of fifth grade when we had to deal with Covid and its effects on school. Our first paragraph dealt with how Covid affected our learning in school. I introduced students to how we’ll use the Schaffer planning guide to help provide us with a bit of freedom in how we compose our paragraphs. We don’t go straight down the line, writing our topic sentence followed our first CD and then our two CMs for that CD. We jump around: first we plan our TS and then we jump to our CDs, ignoring for a moment our CMs. We also do a mixture of fragments/phrases and full sentences. We’ll use our completed Schaffer planning to write the full paragraph tomorrow.
English I students worked on their first digital writing workshops on the Moodle site. Students will be assessing each other anonymously to provide feedback as well as exposure to other students’ writing to get exemplars of what to do and what not to do.
