English 8 students began the second half of the first unit with an introduction to the Schaffer model body paragraph that we will be using all year.
Since we began the day going over work we’d completed the day before, we’re only halfway through the introductory material. We’ll finish up tomorrow.
English I students began thinking about their first real Schaffer paragraph analyzing literature. We’ll be analyzing the relationship between the plot and the setting in “The Most Dangerous Game.” We came up with four possible ways the setting influences the conflict:
- location: the island’s facilitation of Zaroff’s hunting
- location: the island’s facilitation of Zaroff’s capturing of ships
- time: the effect of modern technology on Zaroff’s island
- time: the method of transport Rainsford would be employing
We’ll begin planning the paragraphs tomorrow in class.
Homework
- English 8: complete the “Thank You, Ma’am” if you’re not done. Those who do not turn it in by the end of advisory tomorrow will have lunch detention until he work is complete.
- English I Honors:
- review the four possible claims we could make about the story and begin thinking about what textual evidence you might use with them;
- choose one that you’d prefer to work on.
