English I students worked on their final sonnet, the famous “Sonnet 130.”

They looked at it in terms of the problem/solution organizational structure of sonnets, paying particular attention to the crucial third quatrain. They also examined it syntactically, looking for inversions and such.

We will be having our poetry test on Tuesday 1 November.

English 8 read “The Tell-Tale Heart” in the spirit of Halloween. We’ll be examining it over the next couple of days for foreshadowing, point of view, and irony.
