English 8 students started looking at themes in Nightjohn by looking at motifs in the early part of the work.

English I Honors students began the final writing cycle for our short story unit, examining irony and symbolism in Dinesen’s “Peter and Rosa.” We came up with the most incredible topic sentence: “The ironic ending in which an experienced captain sinks his ship in broad daylight comes about by having the symbols affect the symbolized item.” Well, it is the first draft.
