Today in class we went over Sonnet 29 and learned what it meant. We took notes on how to understand Shakespeare.

We also began paraphrasing Sonnet 29. Here are our paraphrases:

6th period:

When I am experiencing bad luck and people look down on me,
I cry about the fact that I’m a loner/outcast,
And I pray about being a loner/outcast (but God doesn’t seem to answer),
I look at myself and hate myself and where I’ve ended up in life.
I find myself wishing I had more hope,
and I see someone I think is more handsome than I and I want to look ike him, and I see someone with a lot of friends, and I want to have that many friends.

7th period:

When I feel depressed because I’m unlucky and unpopular,
I cry about being an outcast,
and I pray about being an outcast (but God doesn’t seem to answer),
and I examine my life and completely hate it.
I wish I had more hope,
and sometimes I happen to see someone who I think is more handsome than I am, and I want to be as handsome as he, and sometimes I see someone who has a lot of friends and want to be popular like that person

We’ll finish tomorrow.
