Students have now covered all elements of the argument and will continue working to identify and create arguments. We began the process by looking at yet another murder mystery.

English I Honors students began the final topic in the short stories/writing about literature unit, looking at symbolism and irony. We started with the visual arts, examining La Clairvoyance by Rene Magritte (painted in 1936) as an example of highly symbolic and highly ironic work.

We also took a peek at The Japanese Bridge by Claude Monet to help us figure out a bit more about Magritte’s work.

Afterward, we turned to Isak Dinesen’s “Peter and Rosa” as our first story for the examination of irony and symbolism.

Creative writing students looked at looping and freewriting in a minilesson to help students figure out how to increase their writing topics. We also began looking at how we’ll be incorporating the school web site into our writing cycle.
