All classes began the second quarter units today. First and fourth periods read a poem by Howard Nimerov, “Because You Asked about the Line Between Prose and Poetry.” Then they read articles about how to read a poem. The groups discussed which one provided more concrete advice and then worked to apply the interpretive advice of the selected article to the poem.
Second and seventh periods held a tag-team Socratic Seminar about what makes a hero a hero. Our second quarter focus is on heroism, with The Diary of Anne Frank as our anchor text for the quarter.
