Second and seventh periods (English 8 Strategies) worked on their first Schaffer model paragraph. We used a topic that I first began using this year with that I can’t believe I never thought of before: the Schaffer paragraph. It gives students the ability to review the new model while using it. First and fourth periods (English I Honors) began working on an overview of the themes of the whole year that will be incorporated into a short stories unit. We began by working on the difference between analyzing and summarizing: we’ll do a lot of the former in class and virtually none of the latter.

Homework

  • English I Honors:
    • first period: complete the handout regarding analyzing and summarizing. Read the analysis. Circle anything that appears in the analysis and in the poem and connect them with a line; underline anything in the analysis that doesn’t appear in the poem.
    • fourth period: come up with another concrete detail that deals with the violent imagery in the poem for the first body paragraph and plan the two concerete details for the incomplete final paragraph.
