First and sixth periods looked at commentary sentences in the Schaffer model. We worked on creating our own once we got a handle on what commentary is.

Second and fourth periods examined the question of narrator reliability in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Seventh period finished up “Zoo,” the final story in the short story unit. We looked at inferences good readers should make within the story.

Homework
  • First period: work on persuasive essay.
  • Second and sixth periods: read chapters 5-8 in Mockingbird.
  • Sixth period:
    • work on persuasive essay;
    • using the following sentence, add two commentary sentences: “The prince stooped low on the castle steps, picked up a tiny glass slipper and said to his servant, ‘Search the entire kingdom until you find the woman who wore this slipper.'”
  • Seventh period: list three topics that could possibly be on Friday’s test (begin a rough study guide).
