First period continued practicing the effective readers’ skills with Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl (the actual diary).  We did a Think-Aloud in pairs, debriefed, then continued by using the Think-Aloud skills in the ultimately intended manner: during silent reading, simply monitoring one’s thoughts.

Second and sixth periods received their marching orders today: we divided into groups and began looking over the material they’ll be presenting. We also began using the Double-Sided Journal graphic organizer/model to make notes of the reading. Students are using their effective readers’ skills to generate comments about the play.

Fourth period performed their tableaux vivants for 3.1 after a few more minutes’ preparation. Afterward, we watched a performance of 3.1 to see how “pros” do it. (Romeo in this version seems to be getting creepier and creepier to some students.)

Homework
  • First period: writing (final version due a week from tomorrow).
  • Second and sixth periods:
    • finish reading your group’s scene;
    • complete the double-sided journal for your group’s scene (five entries, three different skills).
  • Fourth period:
    • read 3.2;
    • look for parallels in Juliet’s soliloquies with what Romeo was saying in:
      • 1.1
      • 1.5
      • 2.2
