First and fourth periods looked at what tension is, and how authors use it. The four ways authors create tension are dialogue, change, twists, and revelations. We divided into groups and looked at two scenes to examine tension.

Second and seventh periods focused on literature standard nine:

RL9. Analyze how a modern work of fiction draws on themes, patterns of events, or character types from myths, traditional stories, or religious works such as the Bible, including describing how the material is rendered new.

We read a couple of spirituals and had a look at how they were inspired by biblical narratives and then examined a couple of arguments about the spirituals, ending by correcting one argument.
