All classes began the day learning how the starters/bell-ringers in my class work.
English I students continued working on their first unit today, reading their first model selection for our initial writing exercise (coming later this week). We read “The Sniper” and began looking at how the setting can affect the conflict of a story. We’ll be finishing up the model selection tomorrow before we head on to the practice selection.
English 8 also began working on their first reading today. It was a bit teacher-centric as I was showing students how we annotate work in my class. We began with a basic close reading skill, connecting to prior knowledge, as a way to annotate the text and make inferences about it.
We also looked at what conclusions we can draw from focusing on the dialog:
We’ll finish up the first reading tomorrow.
