English I students worked on an examination of how various artists throughout history have represented the story of Calypso in the Odyssey. We began by examining the etymology of the word and came up with a rough Schaffer outline for our thoughts:
Afterward, we looked at Richard Westall’s “Telemachus Landing on the Isle of Calypso,” examining how light and dark play in the piece and the effect of placement has on the perception of power.
English 8 students finished up Flowers for Algernon. We had a few discussion questions after we worked on and shared our progress report summaries.
