English 8 finished up some unfinished work, going first over last week’s article of the week/diary entry. We went over a couple of elements that I was hoping students would pick up on.

The first had to do with the context clues for “SS” (the Schutzstaffel) of Nazi Germany.

The second item concerned context clues for two of the characters mentioned:

• Mr. Kleiman and
• Mr. Goldschmidt.

Afterward, students worked on the comprehension questions for 1.2 and the current No Red Ink assignment.

English I students worked on the mystery of the ending of To Kill a Mockingbird. There are three accounts/understandings of what happened at the end of the novel:

• Atticus Finch’s
• Scout’s, and
• Heck Tate’s.

The truth lies in between all those versions.

Homework

• English 8: work on 1.2 comprehension questions (Diary of Anne Frank) as necessary.
• English I Honors: 
  • complete No Red Ink and clause/phrase work by tomorrow;
  • complete the Mockingbird comprehension questions by Tuesday.
