All students today began going over the very first article of the week.

We’ll be working on various AOWs throughout the year as our bell ringer.

English 8

Students in English 8 added the last of the effective readers’ skills we’ve been working on for the last week. We added “questioning the text” (the OMG questions, as we decided) and picturing the text, a skill that we will probably not put on paper often but is still critical all the same.

English I

Students in English I began our next unit, which is on analyzing short stories. We’ll be continuing this unit for about four weeks. Today we worked on the difference between summarizing and analyzing.

  • do some reasearch on the Irish Civil War (you need to know what “Republicans” and “Free-staters” were and the basics of the conflict for the story);
  • read “The Sniper” by tomorrow (Tuesday 24 August).
