English 8
Students in English 8 continued with our review of Effective Readers’ Skills, reading “Thank You, Ma’am” and applying the skills.
English I
English I students completed their group-work Schaffer paragraphs before beginning their first solo Schaffer paragraphs. We reviewed their group-work paragraphs and discovered:
- A topic sentence that is too general will lead to problems further in the paragraph. The first concrete detail will often serve as a secondary topic sentence, which makes the claim from the initial topic sentence a little more specific. It will lead to all sentences’ functions shifting down one level: CDs become CMs, and CMs become redundant at times.
- In some paragraphs, the CMs will be more fact-based than others. Generally, CMs are opinions, but they are sometimes a little more fact-based. As long as they are explaining how the CD is evidence of the TS they are fine.
Homework
- English 8 Studies: none.
- English I Honors: complete the individual Schaffer paragraphs we began in class today.
