English 8 students began a short unit on irony and its use in fiction to heighten tension, specifically in horror stories. We’ll be studying Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” to look at how Poe uses all three forms of irony — situational, verbal, and dramatic — to heighten tension.

English I Honors students finished working on participles and began gerunds. We’ll finish up the unit on phrases on Friday, possibly spilling over a little into next week.
