school days left
English I students took the time to think, write, and talk about Lord of the Flies in a new way, using some basic principles of sociology:
- People behave differently in groups than they do as individuals.
- People obey rules that are socially constructed.
- People socially construct the rules.
- Some people have more say-so than others in making the rules.
- There are rewards for following the rules and penalties for breaking the rules.
All three of these ideas provide a basis for using the idea of this week’s article of the week on taboo as an interpretive tool for Lord of the Flies.
English 8 students started a final project in which they will be using close reading principles we’ve worked on all year and presentation principles to present a portion of The Diary of Anne Frank.
Homework
- English 8:
- make sure you’ve completed all the comprehension questions for act 1 (scenes 2, 3, 4, and 5);
- be careful to stay on track with the questions for act 2, which you’ll be doing in your presentation groups.
- English I Honors:
- complete the first writing assignment for Lord of the Flies (turn in by this afternoon);
- complete the assessments of the first writing assignment by next Wednesday;
- continue working on the second batch of practice EOC reading tests (due next Monday).
Class Notes
Notes for the day's classes are available here.
Please note that this is a composite file including notes from all classes, though occasionally it might only be one or two classes. I don't differentiate in the file; that is up to you to do.
