English I Honors students began with a review of the homework, which involved integrating quotes into one’s own text.

They also created their first full (well, almost full) analytic Schaffer paragraph today. We used the topic sentence we’d created yesterday, improved its specificity, and then added our CDs. The first chunk has its CM completed; students will complete the second chunk’s CM for homework.

All three classes’ notes are here.

English 8 students began their second unit in which we read Nightjohn. We did an anticipatory Pear Deck/discussion looking at these questions:

  1. How would your life change if you were unable to read? What activities would you no longer be able to do?
  2. How would being illiterate affect your self-confidence? How might you see yourself?
  3. What would you be willing to do to learn to read if you weren’t taught in school? Would you pay money for that skill? Would you risk something to learn that skill?
  4. Imagine you’d just learned to read after struggling for years. How would you feel? What would you do with your new skill?

Students also worked on their articles of the week.
