English 8 students had a Socratic Seminar as the initiation of our newest and last substantial unit. We looked at a few questions about being a hero:
- What is it?
- What does a hero do?
- Who can be a hero?
- What sets a hero apart from “normal” people?
- What are some characteristics of a hero?
First, though, we went over this week’s article of the week.
English I Honors students began the beast: Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations. We’re working on the first chapter as we endeavor to answer the EQ, “How do I understand Dickens’s long sentences.” We looked at two today.
We’ll finish up the sentence work tomorrow before moving on to the chapter work.
We’re almost there, kiddos!
Homework
- English 8 Studies: none.
- English I Honors:
- complete the text annotation we began in class;
