Second and fourth periods reviewed the reading from homework that dealt with the section titled in our textbook “I Am Laertes’ Son,” which includes Odysseus’ arrival at Phaeacia and the initiation of his story of the journey from Troy to Phaeacia. It was an initially confusing section that hopefully makes a bit more sense now.
Afterward, students read the visit to the Lotus Eaters and acted it out, making connections to contemporary life.
We finished up by watching the Coen brothers’ portrayal of the Lotus Eaters in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?.
First and fifth periods began working on a film version of Nightjohn. We’re using a graphic organizer to keep track of changes for the review we’ll be writing next week.
Homework
- First and fifth periods: none.
- Second and fourth periods: read the “Cyclops” section.
