English 8 students began moving toward the end of our poetry/figurative language unit by working in groups to do what we’ve been doing as a whole class:
analyze and explain a poem, including all the figurative language involved in the poem’s development.
We’re working to a point that students can do such work with no help from their peers and little to no assistance from the teacher.
English I Honors students worked on active voice and passive voice, a topic that’s fairly easy to learn but can slip through the cracks fairly quickly. We’ll be reviewing it for most of the rest of the year as a result.
Homework
- English 8:
- complete “Figurative Language Practice 1” (if you haven’t already);
- complete “Figurative Language Practice 2” (this should apply to everyone);
- work on Quizlet vocab work.
- English I Honors: complete IXL work on active/passive.
