English 8 students moved toward their first formative assessment, an extended writing sample for me to evaluate and determine where we need to begin. Today, after going over SLANTS, we completed yesterday’s work and then moved on to the writing process.

English I students began the foundational work for the entire year, the Schaffer model. We went over the basics of an argument before covering the parts of a Schaffer paragraph.

Creative writing students began looking at methods of coming up with ideas for writing. We made our expert list and then began making a secondary list related to it.

Homework

  • English I Honors:
    • look at the example paragraph I provided in class. Find a third repetition, some pattern that runs through the whole paragraph and acts like glue, holding it all together. To complete this, you will need to look at the paragraph as if it is something you can take apart and put back together, not so much the content or ideas.
    • Complete the benchmark test by Monday.
