No one believes me when I tell them. It begins so much like any one of the other 179 days we’ve spent together that the suggestion that today will somehow be extraordinary (i.e., out of the ordinary) seems laughable.

“No, really,” I insist. “When the announcement comes that buses are loading, the tears will start. Even from the toughest.”

Today it began before we ever got inside from eighth grade day.

Eighth grade day was today. There are lots of pictures here.

And I’ll be assigning no more homework to these kids ever.
