English 8 students began working on the first of three selections from The Circuit, Francisco Jiménez’s memoir of life as a migrant child. We read “Under the Wire,” the first chapter of the book, and worked on comprehension and discussion questions on Google Classroom.

English I students had a Socratic Seminar about the type of individual Calypso is. We’ve had four different sources for her, and each of the four presents a somewhat different image of her.

Homework

• English 8: 
  • complete the comprehension and discussion questions on Google Classroom for “Under the Wire”;
  • use the Kahoot! to prepare for the test (Friday or next week).
• English I Honors: 
  • come prepared with a TS and quotes for CDs on the question of what type of person Calypso truly is (from today’s Socratic Seminar);
  • complete appositive work (as needed);
  • complete the forum for Calypso.
