English 8 students finished up “There Will Come Soft Rains” and did a plot analysis of the story. Tomorrow we’ll finish up with practice creating a summary.
English I students continued discussing “The Cask of Amontillado,” focusing again on the questions designed to help students see whether or not they can trust Montressor’s narrative.
- What can we infer about Montressor and Fortunato and their role/position in society?
- Who is he talking to? He keeps saying “you” – whom is he addressing?
- We have two periods of time in this story: 1) when Montressor did these actions 2) when Montressor is telling this story. How much time is in between these?
- Where does this story take place? What country?
Most students now have a good strong claim and some idea of what to use as concrete details.
Homework
- English 8: complete the plot diagram we began in class (sixth period).
- English I Honors: make sure you have a good claim and some ideas about your concrete details.
