English 8 students continued working on quote integration: fifth period went over the topic for a first time; sixth period went over the homework.

English I students began examining “The Cask of Amontillado,” looking at the challenging opening paragraphs:

We learned a few tricks for simplifying a text:

  1. Be aware of inversions (OSV instead of SVO);
  2. Be aware of textual interruptions (relative clauses);
  3. Be aware of the use of punctuation in the text.

Homework

  • English 8: complete the last example of quote integration (fifth period).
  • English I Honors:
    • paraphrase the following from the opening of the story: I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong.
    • re-read “The Cask of Amontillado.”
