What a great first day! Every class was focused, did great work singly and in groups, and showed great motivation — a great day to be at Hughes.

Journalism tackled the tricky questions of what journalism actually is and what news is. It was a little trickier than perhaps the students expected.

English 8 (fourth and fifth periods) began the STEAM unit for our new ROCK cards, looking at a definition of kindness and examples of kind acts while practicing the procedures of group work we’ll use in class.

English I Honors looked at last year’s students’ letters to this year’s students, analyzing both form (how it was written) and content. They also practiced the procedures of group work we’ll use in class.

  • write a 500-word essay in which you a) share anything you wish with me; b) tell me anything you’re proud about (these can be the same things–don’t write it twice, though); and c) express any concerns you have about taking such a challenging English class;
  • create an account at moodle.ourenglishclass.net according to the guidelines explained in class. (You will have to wait to do this until after 5:00 due to odd Internet issues I’m currently experiencing.)
