Today, first and fourth periods learned about the final type of sentence, the compound complex sentence.
Compound-Complex Sentence
- two or more independent clauses
- one or more dependent clause
- combination of compound and complex sentence types
Examples
- Although I like to go camping, I haven’t had the time to go lately, and I haven’t found anyone to go with.
- We decided that the movie was too violent, but our children, who like to watch scary movies, thought that we were wrong.
- I usually use a pick whenever I play the guitar, or I just use my fingers.
Then, they discussed events that they think may foreshadow a future event in the novel with seven different classmates. To follow up, we then discussed the events as a class, and determined a “formula” for what foreshadowing is.
Today second and seventh periods started to the book Monster and they also acted it out.
Homework
- English I Honors:
- finish reading through chapter 40 by Friday;
- if you wish to get ahead, chapter 45 must be read by Monday;
- 20 entries must be in the themes database by midnight tonight.
