Second and fourth periods began the day with a bit of review of last night’s reading, completing more of the study guide for Romeo and Juliet. We then turned our attention to 3.4 and 3.5, with students ending the day preparing for readings from 3.5 in which their tone of voice and volume accurately reflect the emotion of the speaker. Today they worked on simply determining what emotion should be where. Tomorrow, we’ll rehearse a bit and do a performance. The quiz on act three will be Monday.
First and fifth periods returned to “Flowers for Algernon” for a quick review of frequently confused words, inspired by Charlie’s April 10 progress report:
April 10 Miss Kinnian teaches me to spell better. She says look at a word and close your eyes and say it over and over until you remember. I have lots of truble with through that you say threw and enough and tough that you dont say enew and tew. You got to say enuff and tuff. Thats how I use to write it before I started to get smart. Im confused but Miss Kinnian says theres no reason in spelling.
We quickly reviewed the three most commonly confused word groups (there/they’re/their, your/you’re, and two/to/too) before individualizing the work to look for personally challenging word pairs. Students were to come up with three commonly-confused word pairs that perplex them personally from a list of approximately forty.
Homework
- First and fifth periods: you will be having a quiz on determining the main idea of a text, incorporating quotes from a source into your own writing, and commonly confused words on Monday.
- Second and fourth periods:
- review your part from 3.5;
- continue working on your “Decoration Day” paragraph.
