English 8 students continued with “The Tell-Tale Heart,” shifting to some character analysis. We looked at psychological factors behind the story. We looked at questions like:
- What motivates the narrator’s actions?
- How does the narrator describe himself?
- How do his actions portray him?
English I students went over participial phrases briefly.
We concluded with a practice test and some time looking at some of the new poems that will be on tomorrow’s test:
- “Fire and Ice” by Robert Frost
- “Coming to This” by Mark Strand
- “Budapest” by Billy Collins
Homework
- English 8: check your grades and work on missing work you might have. (We already have an inordinate number of NHIs for this quarter.)
- English I Honors: review all the poems we studied in the unit; review the practice test on the courses site; review the new poems that will be on the test tomorrow.
