English 8 students finished up “There Will Come Soft Rains” and did a plot analysis of the story. Tomorrow we’ll finish up with practice creating a summary.

English I students continued discussing “The Cask of Amontillado,” focusing again on the questions designed to help students see whether or not they can trust Montressor’s narrative.

  1. What can we infer about Montressor and Fortunato and their role/position in society?
  2. Who is he talking to? He keeps saying “you” – whom is he addressing?
  3. We have two periods of time in this story: 1) when Montressor did these actions 2) when Montressor is telling this story. How much time is in between these?
  4. Where does this story take place? What country?

Most students now have a good strong claim and some idea of what to use as concrete details.

Homework

  • English 8: complete the plot diagram we began in class (sixth period).
  • English I Honors: make sure you have a good claim and some ideas about your concrete details.
