English 8 students began their second short story, which they will be analyzing on their own as opposed to the class version we did with the first short story. Today students began a two-day period of reading and annotating the story “There Will Come Soft Rain.”

English I students finished looking at the introduction of “The Cask of Amontillado,” adding a name to the sentence simplification we worked on Friday: we were looking for (it turns out) something called interrupters.

There are actually more specific names for the different types of interrupters, but we’ll be adding those names throughout the year — things like participial phrases, subordinate clauses, and the like.

Homework

  • English 8: if you have not completed the short story through page 3 (slide 3), you need to complete that work at home.
  • English I Honors: re-read “The Cask of Amontillado.”
