English I Honors finished working with “Because You Asked About the Line Between Prose and Poetry.”
We concluded with the observations borne out in the poem:
- Poetry is distilled language; we have to add back in what the poet distilled out.
- Poetry works on two levels: what’s happening in the poem and what the poem is really about.
- Poetry is about epiphanies.
Afterward, we looked at “Those Winter Sundays” to examine the role connotation plays in poetry.
English 8 students worked on participles for a little longer, wrapping up our identification work. We finished that with about half the class to spare, so we went back and worked on motifs in Nightjohn.
Homework
- English 8 Studies: none.
- English I Honors: complete assessments on Moodle.
