English I Honors students tackled one of the most confusing passages of Lord of the Flies: the scene in which the pig head talks to Simon. At the beginning of the class, an informal, five-finger survey showed us that almost everyone experienced a great deal of confusion regarding the scene.
After we marked the text for actions and descriptions that stood out and then analyzed what the Lord of the Flies actually said, an informal, five-finger survey showed that most students’ confusion had decreased from a 5 to a 2. A successful day, in other words, and the kids did most of the heavy lifting.
English 8 students continued their lit circles for The Diary of Anne Frank and their acting projects.
