First and fourth periods looked at verbal, situational, and dramatic irony. We also looked at the story of “Peter and Rosa.” We got into groups of three and four and worked to get two examples of irony and two symbols in the text. Some students worked to determine if the story was an allegory or not.

Second and seventh periods worked to use their non-standard English graphic organizer about Sarny, the narrator of Nightjohn, to plan a Schaffer paragraph with the topic sentence: “A reader can tell Sarny is a slave because she uses non-standard English.”
