First and fourth periods completed a whirlwind introduction to the Schaffer model of writing. We first examined a student-written example from previous years about an age-old chestnut: sloppy school lunch. (It always makes me a little guilty to use this example: it seems to be undermining and insulting the cafeteria workers. However, just as everyone has had a bad classroom lesson, everyone has had a poor school lunch. We can’t all be perfect all the time, I suppose.)
Afterward, students worked in groups to create their first Schaffer body paragraphs about, in an ironic twist, the Schaffer model.
Second and seventh periods completed a text-marking activity with this year’s behavior goals list. We also looked at how we’ll be tracking improvement in our weaker areas.
