First and fifth periods finished up yesterday’s work on commonly confused words and then worked on mnemonic devices for remembering how to differentiate between student-chosen word pairs like lose/loose, its/it’s, weather/whether and others. We’ll be reviewing tomorrow for the quiz that will take place Monday. It will cover:

  1. Determining the main idea of a text;
  2. Using quotes from sources to support a given idea; and
  3. Commonly confused words.

Second and fourth periods’ class was one of the highlights of the year. After spending a class period and a half working to determine appropriate tone of voice, speed of delivery, and timing (i.e., pauses), students gave their performance of the final pages of act three scene five of Romeo and Juliet.

As always, there were a few surprisingly passionate performances.

Homework
  • First and fifth periods:
    • study for the quiz on Monday;
    • read all unread progress reports from “Flowers for Algernon” up to the 10 April entry.
  • Second and fourth periods: work on “Decoration Day” paragraph.
