First period didn’t have class. The whole period was taken up with the Explore test, which is from the same test creators that make the ACT test. More information is available here.

Second and fourth periods began the final writing project before the major assessment for the unit. Looking at “Gift of the Magi” and “The Necklace,” we began exploring the role irony and symbolism can play in a story.

Second and fourth periods’ notes.

Fifth period continued working on chapter four of Nightjohn. We practiced the skills for “Say Something” as the basis for a reader’s journal, and students began analyzing John’s reasoning behind the importance of reading, connecting it to prior knowledge in order to make a Schaffer model outline.

Homework
  • First period: none.
  • Second and fourth periods: continue planning from class.
  • Fifth period: complete Schaffer model outline from class.

  1. Mr. Scott, I was wandering when the paper you assigned us in class today in 4th period was due (the one that could replace one of our bad grades if we had one).

  2. We’re going to work on it in class today, provided we have the time.
