The day began with a school-wide recognition of the Hughes girls’ and boys’ basketball teams, both of whom won the country middle school championship Saturday.

First and sixth periods had the first performance of their Anne Frank presentations — the groups presenting act one, scene two completed their full presentations. We’ll go over the scene in more detail tomorrow.

Second and fourth periods looked at the question of who is responsible for Juliet’s suicide. The consensus was that Juliet is ultimately responsible — after all, she did commit the act of her own free will. Others, however, contributed to her sense of helplessness and hopelessness, making her think suicide was the only solution. It was a fruitful discussion.

Seventh period continued with the CRAP test for web sites and began working on research for their major research project.

Homework
  • First and sixth periods:
    • reread scene two;
    • complete the double-sided journal entries for the scene.
  • Second and fourth periods:
    • review the play for references to fate and destiny;
    • continue working on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack project.
  • Seventh period: none.
