First and fourth periods got into groups to plan their arguments about the death of Emmett Till. In the last ten minutes we discussed our assignment about “To Kill a Mockingbird” due Wednesday.

Miss Maudie explains to Scout why her father told her it was a sin to kill a mockingbird.  Find the passage and reread it.  Let’s just assume the mockingbird is a metaphor for something.  What is the metaphor representing?  Try to explain what Atticus and Miss Maudie mean when they say it is a sin to kill one.

Second and seventh periods worked on chapter four of Nightjohn, using the Think Aloud strategy as they read. (This incorporates the same effective readers’ skills as “Say Something.”)

Homework

  • English I Honors:
    • Read chapters 12, 13, 14, and 15 of To Kill a Mockingbird.
    • Check the argument regarding Emmett Till (due tomorrow) to see that all reasons support the claim.
    • Begin working on the writing assignment due Wednesday.
