Materials
The following is a list of materials students will need in English Language Arts:
- Three-ring binder (one or one-and-a-half inch).
- Five to eight separators for the binder.
- Spiral notebook with a minimum of 200 pages.
- Pencil.
- Personal pencil sharpener.
- One pack of index cards.
- Regular-ruled paper (College-ruled sheets are often bigger, rendering neat organization problematic).
- One of the following:
- box of tissues;
- roll of paper towels;
- dispenser of hand sanitizer.
Additionally, I expect all students to come to class with a writing instrument and something upon which to write. I do not lend pencils or provide paper to students who have misplaced items or forgotten them.
Writing Notebook
The 200-page spiral notebook is for our writing notebook. Students need to number the pages and create a table of contents at the front of the notebook:
Pages |
Label |
| 1-3 | Table of contents |
| 4-9 | What should I write about? |
| 10-13 | Writing and Literary Terms |
| 14, 15 | Spelling Demons |
| 16-45 | Craft |
| 46-70 | Editing |
| 71+ | Writing |
If students are unable to find a 200-page notebook (they are, in fact, sometimes difficult to locate), two, 100-page notebooks will suffice.
